Art Across Borders: Contemporary Iraqi and Palestinian ArtContributed by Cheryl Kramer on 10/06/04
Art Across Borders is a traveling exhibition of contemporary Iraqi and Palestinian art organized by the Babylon Art and Cultural Center and curated by Meg Novak, an American artist, and Flo Razowsky, an American-born Jewish activist. The majority of the works in this exhibition were collected by the curators over a six-week period in the autumn of 2002, during which they made humanitarian visits to Iraq and Palestine. Novak and Razowsky visited the homes and studios of artists, delivered much needed art supplies, conducted interviews, and witnessed firsthand the difficult conditions of daily life faced by the artists. The exhibition runs from October 7 to November 7, with an opening reception on Thursday, October 7, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. In addition, Department of Politics faculty members Asma Barlas and Beth Harris will join artist and curator Meg Novak for a gallery talk on Thursday, October 28, at 7:30 p.m. The reception, talk, and exhibit are free and open to the public.
