Media Ownership: Past, Present, Future -- a public forum with Congressman Maurice Hinchey, FCC Commissioner Michael Copps, and local experts -- will be held Tuesday, October 19, 2:30-4:30 p.m. in Emerson Suites, B and C.

Commissioner Michael J. Copps -- Michael Copps is one of five commissioners directing the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The FCC is an independent United States government agency, directly responsible to Congress. The FCC was established by the Communications Act of 1934 and is charged with regulating interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable.
Congressman Maurice Hinchey -- Maurice Hinchey was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in November 1992 after serving 18 years in the New York State Assembly. From January 1993 through December 1998, he was a member of the House Committee on Banking and Financial Services and the House Committee on Natural Resources. He was then elected by his colleagues to the House Appropriations Committee and serves on its subcommittees on agriculture and the interior. Hinchey has been an active opponent of the continuing erosion of media ownership rules. He is the author of the Media Ownership Reform Act of 2004.
