Viola music of and inspired by the Romantic era will be the focus of an upcoming recital by Ithaca College associate professor of music performance Debra Moree.
The free concert will be on Thursday, October 21, at 7:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall of the Whalen Center. Pianist Read Gainsford will collaborate.
The program will include the virtuoso gypsy-style Concertpiece by Enesco, the Brahms Sonata in E-flat, and a Romance by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Rounding out the program will be a sonata by George Rochberg, who had up till that time composed in a very mathematical "serial" manner. For this 1979 work Rochberg took inspiration from the great Romantic composer Gustav Mahler and wrote a large-scale work with rich, emotional content.
