Ithaca College

Pianist Irina Voro -- called "a unique musical personality" by the New York Concert Review -- will display her distinct performing style at Ithaca College on Wednesday, October 27. Featuring the music of Alexander Scriabin, C.P.E. Bach, Rodion Schedrin, César Franck, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Cyrill Scott, the free concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the Whalen Center.

Taking on a challenge of drawing new audiences to classical music, Voro unveiled a concept that she calls "theater-recital," in which she performs classical piano compositions along with her own poetic narratives. Voro's Carnegie Hall debut of her "theater-recital" concept in 2000 inspired a standing ovation.

No stranger to the concert circuit, Voro has most recently performed as a recitalist, chamber musician, and concerto soloist in Europe, the Far East, Russia, Canada, and the United States. What sets her apart from many other concert performers is the emotional quality of her interpretations. Voro has a precious gift for uncovering the drama of the piece and telling the world something new, touching, and wonderful.

Born in Russia, Voro graduated with high distinction from the Saratov Conservatory. She then moved to Canada, where she received her doctorate in piano performance from the University of Montreal. She is currently an assistant professor of piano at the University of Kentucky School of Music.
