Remeleixo, the musical duo of soprano saxophonist Steven Mauk and guitarist Pablo Cohen, will give a free recital on Sunday, January 23, at 8:15 pm in the Hockett Family Recital Hall at Ithaca College.

Remeleixo (pronounced Reh-meh-LAY-show) is a Portuguese word meaning style or finesse. It is often used when speaking about someone who dances with particular grace and elegance. Both musicians teach music performance at the Ithaca College School of Music and are virtuoso performers with decades of concert experience throughout the US and in many foreign countries. They perform repertoire ranging from baroque to contemporary, specializing in the music of South America including several historic tangos and choros. This season the duo will also present concerts at Syracuse University, Elmira College, Schenectady County Community College, and in the Boston area.

The program includes Luminescence arranged specifically for the duo by Ithaca College composer Dana Wilson. Another work, Castelnuovo-Tedesco's Sonata for Flute and Guitar has been arranged for soprano saxophone by Steve Mauk. A piece in the "new tango" style by Di Marino will be performed for the first time ever in America. Other composers represented are Tower, Ralph Towner, (noted for his participation in Oregon) and J. S. Bach.

For more information, see Remeleixo.
