Thursdays at the Handwerker: Opening Reception and Artist's LectureContributed by Cheryl Kramer on 02/01/05
The 39 paintings currently on display offer for the first time a retrospective look at Gregg's development as an artist. An assistant professor of art at Benedict College, Gregg has labeled herself a member of a "new generation of black artists emerging with a vision and voice." She paints primarily in series, through which she explores African American identity within American culture and gender roles, resulting in personal and social perspectives on race, class, and sexuality. This event is cosponsored by the Ithaca College African-Latino society. For further information please contact Cheryl Kramer, gallery director and assistant professor of art history, at 607-274-3548 or visit the Handwerker Gallery. Contributed by Cheryl Kramer |
