The life of Carlton "Carp" Wood, former outstanding coach, administrator, educator, and charter member of the Ithaca College Athletic Hall of Fame, will be celebrated on Saturday, February 19, 12:30-2:00 pm in the Clark Lounge of the Campus Center at Ithaca College.

Wood passed away in Ithaca on Saturday, February, 12, 2005.

Coach Wood was on campus, this past fall, when the new press box was opened on the soccer field that bears his name. He coached soccer, basketball, and baseball at his alma mater (class of '39). He was the coach of the first Ithaca men's basketball team (1963-64) to compete in the NCAA national basketball tournament, and coached the soccer team to its first university playoff bid after an undefeated 1965 regular season.

Deborah Martin and four other music faculty members will perform at the celebration. Friends and family having remembrances of Coach Wood are invited to share their thoughts at the celebration. Cake and ice cream will be served. Those unable to attend who would like to contribute a remembrance can do so by e-mail to ccox@ithaca.edu.

In lieu of flowers and other expressions of sympathy, the family encourages donations in Carp's name to the Ithaca Fund for Athletics to support the soccer, baseball, and basketball teams and/or to the Evelyn B. Wood Memorial Fund (501 Mitchell Street, Ithaca, NY 14850) to support reading instruction at Belle Sherman Elementary School .
