The School of Music will welcome double bassist Jeff Bradetich for a free guest recital on Monday, February 28. The performance will begin at 8:15 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music.

Bradetich's program will feature works by Fauré and Paganini, tango music of Astor Piazzolla, contemporary music for bass, and Jay Ungar's Ashokan Farewell, the haunting theme from Ken Burns's epic documentary The Civil War.

Proclaimed by the New York Times as "the master of his instrument," Jeff Bradetich is regarded as one of the leading performers and teachers of the double bass in the United States. He has performed on four continents, won major solo competitions, and been featured on radio and television throughout North and South America and Europe.

As executive director of the International Society of Bassists (ISB) from 1982 to 1990, he established the ISB International Conventions, ISB Solo Competition, ISB Endowment Fund, and ISB Magazine. He has been teaching at the University of North Texas since 1994.
