PreVues 5, the Park School's annual student film and video showcase, will be held at 7:15 p.m., Thursday, March 31, at Cinemapolis in Center Ithaca. A reception will follow at Juna's Café on the Commons.
PreVues highlights the best student work from the 2003-2004 academic year. From the hundreds of films and videos produced by students last year, seven juried selections were chosen for this screening. The event is funded by the James B. Pendleton Endowment.
Works for this year's screening include:
- Simple
by Emily Martin -- examines our struggle to find simplicity in a complex world. Its unique visual design was created by combining computer rotoscoped video with 16 mm film.
- Westbound
by Sherri Kauk -- about Ayano, who travels west to be with her John Wayne. The film adheres to popular narrative form. Its story seeks a home for love, despite cultural norms and idealized notions.
- Paper Cuts by Sudhanshu Saria
-- using origami swans as a symbol of peace, the filmmaker presents his take on the war and peace situation.
- Wonderland by Thomas Cznarty
-- pursues how strangers, when placed in dire circumstances react to one another.
- Like Sleep Might Steal on Me
by Michael Wechsler -- after three restless nights, the filmmaker started to wonder if he would ever sleep peacefully. He decided to translate this experience into a film.
- Hairy Hero by Rob Sumner
-- looks at deep philosophical issues, etched directly into the surface of 16mm film.
- Good Housekeeping by David Kossack
-- An isolated housekeeper and a shy janitor quietly connect over their shared interest.
