Cameroonian Scholar to Present Lecture/Performance WorkshopContributed by Cynthia Henderson on 03/31/05
"Song and dance are instrumental in all traditional African celebrations," says Samba, "not only as an element of entertainment but also as a means of handing down the tradition from the older to the younger generations. In communities where certain topics still remain taboo, women and children use songs and dance as media to express their disillusionment with discriminatory practices."
Both the lecture and performance workshop are free and open to all Ithaca College faculty, staff, and students. Those not actively participating in the performance workshop are welcome to observe. The Department of Theatre Arts thanks the Diversity Awareness Committee, the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Office of Affirmative Action for making this event possible. |
