I am pleased to announce the appointment of David Garcia, associate dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences, as the acting director of first year programs beginning immediately.
David will serve in this capacity until mid-July while we conduct a national search for the newly created position of director of first year academic programs and advising. David will return to his position as associate dean of H&S, where he has done an outstanding job since the summer of 2003. David came to IC from New York University, where he directed their very successful general studies program.
Special thanks to David for his willingness to take on this position during the reorganization of the first year office and also to Dean Howard Erlich for his willingness to lend David's talent and services to the important job of overseeing the planning and implementation of a revised summer orientation program.
