Ithaca College

The Ithaca College Opera Workshop will present a series of 17 scenes entitled "Operatic Borrowings, Influences, and Rip-Offs" on Tuesday, April 19, at 8:15 in the Hockett Family Recital Hall at Ithaca College. The free program will include scenes from La Boheme, Rent, Rigoletto, and South Park the Movie.

Director Patrick Hansen explained that parallel scenes from operas and the musical theater versions they inspired will be performed side by side: Rent inspired by Boheme," "Phantom of the Opera with La Fanciulla del West, and Miss Saigon paired with Madame Butterfly.

Other opera excerpts will be by Offenbach, Adamo, Britten, and Strauss, with musical theatre excerpts from West Side Story and Les Miserables. The finale will be from South Park the Movie.

There will be some adult content in the evening's presentation.
