David Gatten, associate professor in Cinema and Photography, has been named a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, one of the world's most prestigious awards for scholars and artists.

The fellowships are awarded by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. Fellows are appointed on the basis of distinguished achievement in the past and exceptional promise for future accomplishment.

Gatten is one of 186 artists, scholars, and scientists selected from more than 3,000 applicants. He plans to begin his fellowship in Spring 2006.
