The School of Business is proud to announce that the IC chapter of NABA (the National Association of Black Accountants) finished second in its division (Eastern Region) for chapter competition for the second year in a row.
This is especially exciting as this student chapter was formed just two years ago. Even more impressively, IC NABA finished third in its division nationally this year. This comes from the very active and enthusiastic student leadership coupled with support provided by the School of Business and Ithaca College.
The competition is based on quarterly reports of chapter activities, for which points are awarded. Each chapter is sponsored by a professional chapter within a region of the country and is categorized by size based on prior year membership totals (Division I is membership greater than 61; Division II is between 30 and 60; and Division III is 10 to 29). IC NABA is in the Eastern Region sponsored by the New York Chapter of NABA and categorized in Division III based on last year's membership. We faced very stiff competition as shown by size for the 15 largest Division III schools (out of 119) across the country, all of which will likely move to Division II next year given the growth in membership above 29 this year.
Below is the national ranking for Division III Colleges:
College, region and points
1 Morgan State University Eastern 68
2 University of Alabama - Birmingham Southern 45
3 Ithaca College Eastern 44
4 Northern Illinois University Central 39
5 Michigan State University Central 37
6 Florida A&M University Southern 34
7 St. John's University Eastern 34
8 Brooklyn College Eastern 33
9 Metropolitan St. Louis Central 33
10 North Carolina State University Southern 33
13 Grambling State University Western 32
14 Hofstra University Eastern 31
15 University of Virginia Eastern 30
The top two winners in each division usually receive sponsorship to the national convention held each summer. Two IC NABA students will be sponsored to attend the NABA convention in Detroit this summer.
Kudos to all members of IC NABA!
