Beginning July 10, FedEx is introducing three new signature options to improve delivery commitments (their spin on this new charge).

Direct signature required. This is currently the default setting on our Ship Manager computer and on Passkey. FedEx obtains a signature from any person at the delivery address and reattempts delivery if no one is available to sign for the package. The fee for this will now be an additional $2.00 and is for residential and commercial deliveries.

Indirect signature required. FedEx obtains a signature in one of three ways: from any person at the delivery address, from any person at a neighboring address, or the recipient can leave a signed FedEx door tag authorizing release of the package without anyone present. The fee for this service will be $1.50 and is for residential deliveries only.

Adult Signature Required. FedEx obtains a signature from anyone at the delivery address who is at least 21 years of age and has government issued photo identification as proof of age. The fee for this service will be $2.75.

FedEx will release residential deliveries if the "deliver without a signature" is selected by the sender at no charge. Mail Services will keep the default settings at "signature required" (additional $2.00 fee) and plans to update the online and card stock shipping documents in the near future.
