The catering department of Dining Service at Ithaca College is proud to do its part to help promote sustainability by using new recycleable cups made from PLA (Poly Lactic Acid). These cups are clear with the Ithaca College seal imprinted and are 100% annually renewable and fully compostable. New Compostable Cup Used by Catering Department Comment from

This sounds like an improvement over cups that are not recyclable at all, but wouldn't using non-plastic/non-paper plates and cups--and then washing and reusing them, for months or even years--be more sustainable and environmentally friendly?

That's true, but I can see how many events can benefit from this, especially through the use of casual catering. Good work guys! My question is this... is there going to be a move towards additional recyclable/compostable products like plates and utensils? Also, is there any potential for collecting food scraps from catering events to go towards composting? Ideally, we should have separate collection bins so that EVERYTHING can be recycled.

I apologize for taking so long to answer. Yes - these cups are just the
beginning of compostable items. Dining Services is working on many more sustainability initiatives. Please keep watching Intercom for updates. |
