The Counseling Center has a number of new offerings and activities planned for the fall semester.
The Where's the Counseling Center? campaign begins August 22. New students are encouraged to come to the center to register for prizes. All that's required is that students find our office and provide us with contact information for the prize drawing.
Finding Your Identity in a New Place will be offered to students as part of Continuing Orientation. Additional group discussion sessions will be offered to interested students to help with adjustment to college.
The group therapy program at the Counseling Center will offer depression support, healing from loss, relationship issues, eating disorder issues, anxiety reduction, and dream work. Details about each group will be sent to residence halls and campus offices on promotional flyers and will be posted on our webpage.
Faculty and staff will soon receive new resource cards listing symptoms of distress in students and on-campus resources available to students and faculty and staff with concerns. An accompanying letter describes our services and fall programs in more detail.
On October 3, Ross Szabo from CampusSpeak will present "What Happy Faces Are Hiding," his program about depression on college campuses. National Depression Screening Day will be held on October 6.
Finally, in September, the Center will offer discussion and support sessions for the campus community following the recent unexpected deaths of members of the Ithaca College community. Specific dates, times, and events will be posted on Intercom in the near future.
