William J. Tastle, School of Business associate professor, has been appointed a visiting scientist at the National Laboratory at Los Alamos, New Mexico.

The School of Business is proud to announce that during the summer and fall of 2006, Tastle will be working in the modeling, algorithms and informatics group at Los Alamos. His appointment was motivated by his work in developing a new measure of agreement called the consensus measure. The measure provides for the analysis and evaluation of ordinal scales, e.g., Likert scales that are regularly used in research. The motivation for the measure was a need to develop a mechanism for determining the proximity of groups to attaining consensus during deliberations. The inverse of the consensus is a measure of dissension, another research thread that has developed from this discovery.
