The Ithaca College community is cordially invited to attend a series of lectures and films on the historical and contemporary concerns of the Caribbean. Since Cristobal Colón first used the word "Caribe" or "cannibal" to represent the inhabitants he encountered in his voyages to the “New World,” the Caribbean has been a contested region.
In cooperation with professor of politics Charles Santiago, the Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies offers an introduction to the role of race and migration in our understanding of the Caribbean and its relationship to the larger world community. The interdisciplinary lecture and film series is co-sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Division of Student Affairs, and the Caribbean Students Association.
