To foster a campus climate that supports constructive interaction among community members from diverse backgrounds, I invite the faculty to attend a presentation by Maura Cullen (www.mauracullen.com) on Wednesday, September 28, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Emerson A.

I know many of you will be teaching, but hope that, if your schedule permits, you will join this conversation on how best to make Ithaca College a place where the encounter with difference and the respectful discussion of challenging ideas occurs. We should be able to accommodate about 90 members of the faculty in Emerson A.

Ms. Cullen will also offer a diversity workshop for students during the evening of the 28th and a session for student affairs staff in the afternoon of the same day.

Some of you met with me this summer and indicated that the College needs to consider how to incorporate issues related to diversity into the curriculum, as well as pedagogical approaches that most effectively promote productive exchanges in the classroom regarding this topic. I am hopeful that this presentation and workshop will help us to continue this campus conversation about the role of diversity in student learning.

Please RSVP to Esther Radoja (eradoja@ithaca.edu) so that we know how many participants to expect. Thank you.
