Poet, playwright, and performance artist Lenelle Moise will give a free public presentation, "Queer(ed) Poems: An Evening with Lenelle Moise"
as part of National Coming Out Day celebrations on Thursday October 6, 7:00 p.m. in Emerson Suite B, Campus Center.
After graduating from Ithaca College in 2002, Moise earned a master of fine arts degree in playwriting from Smith College in 2004. The author of several plays -- including "The Many Faces of Nia," a comedy about Black-Jewish relations -- Moise is the winner of the 2003 James Baldwin Memorial Award in Playwriting.
Moise is also the author of several chapbooks of poetry and a three-time winner of the New World Theater National Poetry Slam. In addition to her featured appearances in countless cafes, bookstores, and theaters, she recites and performs extensively at academic institutions. A touring member of the Hen Foundation and the People's Poetry Theatre Collective, she has presented her acclaimed autobiographical solo performance, "Womb-Words, Thirsting," to audiences nationwide.
A reception and LGBT Center open house will follow her performance, in the LGBT Resource Room, ground floor of Hammond Health Center.
