Norm Pure, an instructor in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance's Department of Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Services, was recently interviewed in the September 16, 2005 Ithaca Journal article entitled, "Helping Boys Become Men."

Norm Pure, an instructor in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance's Department of Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Services, was recently interviewed in the September 16, 2005 Ithaca Journal article entitled, "Helping Boys Become Men." Norm is the Executive Director of Beyond Barriers, a new local program designed to develop the potential and expand the character of young people, particularly young men. The program uses a variety of outdoor-based adventures to support, challenge, and enrich lives. Commenting on the young people's experience in the risk, resource and safety systems required to reach the top of a climbing wall, Norm was quoted as stating, "The goal is to help them see the connection…to their lives at home, school and the community."
