The Ithaca College Investment Club is a mutual fund run by a student organization named the Core Trading Consultants (CTCs). This organization is responsible for the management of the mutual fund’s assets which are approaching $10,000.
The CTC organization is structured like an investment bank in that each member works as part of an analyst group specializing in a given industry. In total, the organization is broken down into fourteen analyst groups:
Basic Materials
Internet Companies
Consumer Non-Cyclical
Transportation
Conglomerates
Energy and Utilities
Capital Goods
Healthcare
Telecom and Media
Real Estate
Services
Financial
Technology
Consumer Cyclical
Each analyst group is comprised of several analysts along with one lead analyst, who is typically an upperclassman with investment experience. The analyst groups are responsible for making stock recommendations and providing all shareholders with industry reports. When an analyst group believes that a stock within their industry is a good fit for our portfolio, that group is required to give a buy presentation on the stock to all shareholders. The presentation includes topics such as a summary of the company, relevant financials, potential risks, growth prospects, and technical analysis. If the presentation is voted for by the shareholders, either at the meeting or through proxy, then the stock is added into our portfolio. To sell a stock in the portfolio, a sell presentation must be given.
Shareholders of the mutual fund are from a broad range, including students, professors, faculty, and alumni. Our benchmark is the S&P 500, which we are slightly beating to date this year. Most recently, the net asset value of the fund was around $9.80; however, this changes everyday.
If you would like to learn more about investing, this fund is definitely for you. In addition, we believe that the growth potential of the fund is astronomical, and we look forward to managing your share purchase.
