Susan Allen-Gil has received a certificate of nomination for the Professor of the Year program, jointly sponsored by the Council for Advancement and Support for Education (CASE) and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
More than 300 outstanding educators were nominated from colleges and universities across the United States, according to Rae Goldsmith, vice president for communications and marketing for CASE. While Susan was not selected for one of the four finalist POY awards this year, she is a certainly a winner in our book.
Susan was nominated by provost Peter Bardaglio on the strength of her undergraduate teaching record, her creative use of class projects related to campus sustainability, and in particular, Susan’s leadership in the development of the innovative NSF grant program that created the successful academic partnership between Environmental Studies and EcoVillage at Ithaca. Offering letters in support of Susan’s nomination were former students David Ross ’04 and Kat McCarthy ’05, dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences Howard Erlich, Garry Thomas, associate professor of Anthropology (retired), Marlene Barken, associate professor of Business Administration and Legal Studies, and Liz Walker, director of EcoVillage at Ithaca.
