Angus Godwin, professor of vocal performance at Ithaca College’s School of Music, will present a free concert of music of George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, and the like on Sunday, October 30, at 2:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall. He will be assisted by Steve Brown, guitar; Gordon Stout, marimba; and Nicholas Walker, string bass.

Godwin is a graduate of Capital University, the Juilliard School, and Columbia University. At Juilliard he was a member of the Juilliard Opera Theatre, where he performed leading roles in a number of operas.

He has appeared as soloist at Carnegie Hall and Town Hall in New York City. In Town Hall he sang in a series of “Twilight Concerts.” He has appeared in a number of concerts for children, titled “Songs that Dance” with dancer Judith Janus. For 35 weeks he sang at Julius Monk’s Plaza 9 in Hotel Plaza in New York City. He has performed on radio and television, including the Today Show. Under the aegis of Columbia Artists Management, Inc., he has given more than 300 solo recitals throughout the United States and Canada. Since 1969 Godwin has been a member of the voice faculty at Ithaca College.
