The third annual Ithaca College Veterans Day celebration will be held this Thursday, November 10th, from 12:05 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, in the Emerson Suites!
Veterans Day is observed officially on November 11, regardless of the day of the week on which it falls -- however, when Veterans Day falls on a weekday, many communities choose to hold Veterans Day parades or other celebrations at other times before or after November 11 so that more people can participate.
The College’s celebration will be held on Thursday the 10th, so that IC veterans and others who wish to take part in the celebration can attend. (The noon time frame is reserved for meetings, there are no classes held at that time, and we are able to schedule the music performers, all of whom are IC students or staff.)
This free event will feature Ithaca College Brass Choir and IC voICes, as well as ROTC from Cornell and Ithaca College. Featured speakers will be music alumnus Dr. Edward Green ‘42, who served with the U.S. Army Airborne, and Emma Schutz, who served with the U.S. Army Nursing Corps. Both are residents at Longview. Shirley Hockett, professor emerita, will be master of ceremonies.
The purpose of Veterans Day is to show appreciation to the 48 million Americans who have served honorably in the military since 1776. There are currently about 25 million living veterans. Please join us in thanking these special men and women!
