Monday, November 14th from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. in Textor 101, Students for a Just Peace, IC Students for Fair Trade, and the Living Wage Coalition will be hosting a special screening of "War-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price" in collaboration with a screening campaign occurring throughout the United States.

This new Robert Greenwald film "takes the viewer on a deeply personal journey into the everyday lives of families struggling to fight Goliath. From a small business owner in the Midwest to a preacher in California, from workers in Florida to a poet in Mexico, dozens of film crews on three continents bring the intensely personal stories of an
assault on families and American values” (http://www.walmartmovie.com).

A panel discussion will follow the screening and students, faculty and staff are invited to come view the film and share their thoughts or personal experiences on Wal-Mart and corporate America.

Just so that people don't buy in to all the propaganda that may appear in Greenwald's film, please be aware that another movie about Wal-Mart exists. This movie, which portrays the retaliler in a positive light, was made by Ron Calloway, and is called ""Why Wal-Mart Works & Why That Makes Some People Crazy." The media has talked mostly about the negative movie, but in order for people to get the entire picture, people should see both movies. The positive film comes out on November 15th.

I actually got in contact with the positive film's producer. Collectively, we decided it would be a good idea to give a screening of the film "Why Wal-Mart works" too just so that audiences here are not presented with only one side. He's ending me the screening tape/DVD: I'm just wondering how I would organize an event (so that students might show up). Any help here would be nice.

Thank you,

It is very good to point out that there may be a certain bias in any document, video, etc. So, thank you for telling us about this second film. It seems, however, that you may have neglected to realize that the "positive" film about WalMart may also be "propoganda". In the end, it is difficult for one to decide what to believe and what not to without a more thorough examination of the facts.

Perhaps some other sources of information can help each of us determine our own opinions on the matter.
