Sarah Roe, '06, English major, and Rebecca Troutman, '06, Writing major, members of the H & S Honors Program, delivered papers at the Mid-Atlantic Popular/American Culture Association Annual Conference in New Brunswick, NJ, Nov. 4th and 5th.

Sarah's presentation, titled "Sherman Alexie: Comedian, Shaman, or Vanishing Indian," and Rebecca's paper, titled "Mixed Blood Consciousness in Louis Owens' The Sharpest Sight," were based on work originally done in Marlene Kobre's Intermediate Honors Seminar on Native American fiction, titled "Resisting Representation." Prof. Kobre and Ron Denson, both in the Dept. of Writing, led a roundtable discussion on "Ward Churchill and the Responsibilities of Speech/Text: Fear and Loathing on the Post-9/11 Trail." Prof. Denson, who serves as Area Chair for Native American Studies for the association, organized three panels for the conference.
