This spring, Ithaca College Habitat For Humanity has teamed up with
Cornell HFH and the Tompkins County HFH affiliate to participate in the
"Home in a Box" project. What this undertaking entails is assembling
large-scale components of a house, as well as the rest of the materials
necessary to complete the home; including walls, trusses, doors, windows,
plumbing, etc. All of the materials will then be containerized and shipped
to a destination in the Gulf area and assembled by a local affiliate.

This is a unique opportunity to showcase our community’s commitment to
serving others and bring together students from both campuses with
community members. Our plan for Home in a Box is to build a house in the
community with student, staff, faculty, and community volunteers. Our
community has already responded with a generous and overwhelming desire to
assist those affected by the hurricanes. The Home in a Box program is a
secondary phase of assistance necessary as the area begins to rebuild. If
"Strive to Give Five" was part of an immediate response, this project is
part of a longer-term rebuilding process.

The cost for the project is $75,000. This amount includes all materials
and services necessary to build a house, the containment and shipping of
the house. This price also includes community development, family
selection and support, land acquisition, and site development and services
for the hurricane affected affiliate.

Right now, this project needs individuals who are willing to commit
themselves to fundraising and community outreach for "Home in a Box." If
you are interested in getting involved, have ideas or want more
information please contact: habitat@ithaca.edu
