The year-long film series "Out of the Closet and Onto the Screen: The Many Meanings of Family" continues with two screenings this week. No Dumb Questions will be screened on Wednesday, November 30 at 7:00 p.m. in Textor 102. On Thursday, December 1 at 7:00 pm in Textor 103, One+One will be screened.
No Dumb Questions is a lighthearted yet poignant story of three sisters -- ages 6, 9, and 11 -- struggling to understand why and how their Uncle Bill is becoming a woman. These girls love their uncle, but will they feel the same way when he becomes their new Aunt Barbara? With just weeks until Bill's first visit as Barbara, the sisters navigate the complex territories of anatomy, sexuality, personality, gender, and fashion. Their reactions are funny, touching, and distinctly different. The film has been honored with several awards, including Best Short Film, Honorable Mention at the Sundance Film Festival and the Director’s Choice Award at the Black Maria Film Festival.
One+One profiles two couples -- one gay, one straight -- who have something in common: in each relationship, one of the partners is HIV positive. The film takes an unflinching look at the ways in which the couples cope with the difficult task of living with HIV on a daily basis, and the deep bond they share because of it. In commemoration of World AIDS Day, members of the Ithaca College AIDS Working Group will be present to provide information and resources before and after this screening.
The screenings are free and open to the public. The spring schedule of films in this continuing series will be announced soon.
