Monday, January 16, 2006, begins a week of activities at Ithaca College to celebrate the life, legacy and teachings of Martin Luther King, Jr. A detailed listing of Monday’s events is below. For a complete list of activities scheduled throughout the week visit www.ithaca.edu/diversity. Join the campus community for a special breakfast to kick-off the week long celebration. All faculty, staff, and students are invited. Listen to musical selections from the Amani Gospel Singers as well as hear dramatic readings of Dr. King’s work. The winner of the MLK Flash Animation contest will also be presented at the breakfast. ... Established in 1995 as a university-community partnership to celebrate the life and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; this event is free and open to all and includes a buffet luncheon, a keynote speech and performances by local choirs. Workshops for children and adults follow the luncheon. This year’s highlights include: special activities to assist families affected by Hurricane Katrina, a keynote speech by Ithaca College professor Sean Eversley-Bradwell, and kids activities and workshops. ...
What would have happened if Malcolm X and Martin Luther King had met before they were assassinated, just three years apart? This intriguing idea is the subject of the critically acclaimed play The Meeting, a powerful drama about the lives, philosophies, and times of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. The fictional hotel room clash, written by Jeff Stetson, received a Louis B. Mayer Award, eight NAACP Theater Awards, and six New York AUDELCO nominations. It has been produced throughout Asia, Europe and the United States.
The Meeting is being presented as part of Ithaca College's week long celebration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It will be staged Monday, January 16, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. in the Emerson Suites. The play is free and open to the campus community and the public.
