Lisa Maurer, LGBT Coordinator in the Office of Multicultural Affairs, presented work on cross cultural issues in sexual and reproductive health in
the context of the global HIV/AIDS pandemic at the 18th Annual Creating Change conference in November in Oakland CA.
The presentation, "Sexual Rights are Human Rights: Common Causes in a Global Context," focused on unique approaches youth and professionals in Namibia are utilizing to secure equal participation by all - in HIV education strategies, women's and LGBT rights issues, and access to health information and services. Participants explored common themes, successes, and challenges for those engaged in similar pursuits in the US and throughout the world.
Creating Change is the premier national LGBT conference, sponsored by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. Each year the conference attracts
2,500+ participants from within and outside of the LGBT community. The conference is known for providing a unique environment where leaders come
together from diverse places and backgrounds to create a community that is both strengthening and inspiring.
