Guest artist Jason D. Ham will present a free euphonium recital at Ithaca College on Monday, January 23. Featuring an instrument rarely heard in solo performances, the recital will begin at 8:15 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music. With Hanako Yamagata collaborating on piano, the program will include a classical sonata by Marcello, along with more recent works by Reeman, Ellerby, and others.

Currently in his third year as a member of the United States Military Academy Band, Ham is a Yamaha Performing Artist as well as the 2001 winner of the International Tuba and Euphonium Conference (ITEC) Solo Euphonium Artist Competition. An internationally recognized euphonium pioneer, Ham was the first solo euphonium player to perform with the People’s Liberation Army Band of China as well as the first euphonium soloist to perform in Bulgaria and Macedonia. Also a brass band enthusiast, Ham currently serves as a solo performer and assistant conductor of Imperial Brass, a British-style brass band based in New Jersey.

The Ithaca College School of Music offers some 300 free concerts each academic year. More information on these performances is available by calling (607) 274-3717 or visiting www.ithaca.edu/concerts.
