The date has been set for the 2006 community fireworks show in Ithaca. The fireworks will be shot from atop the Ithaca College campus on Monday night, July 3, on the eve of Independence Day.

The Ithaca community fireworks show is always in advance of the actual holiday, according to Fran Benedict, chairman of the volunteer committee that organizes the show.

“We want everyone to know the date now,” Benedict said, “so they can mark their calendars for central New York's best fireworks display.” As usual, traditional and patriotic festivities will precede the fireworks display.

“It’s not too early to make a donation to support this year’s show,” Benedict said. He explained that contributions continue to be the mainstay of the Ithaca fireworks shows, which began in 1947.

Donations to support the 2006 fireworks show can be made by sending checks to the Community Fireworks Committee in care of Tompkins Trust Company, The Ithaca Commons, PO Box 460, Ithaca, NY 14851.

For interviews, call Fran Benedict at (607) 273-3210 or David Stewart at (607) 273-3222.
