Announcing Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival Festival Fellows Program
January 25, 2006 -- The Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival Fellows program (March 30 to April 6) brings outstanding graduate students of color to Ithaca College during the festival to immerse themselves in screenings, lectures, workshops, master classes, and events within an engaging, interdisciplinary, think tank environment.
This year’s Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival at Ithaca College is a one week multimedia and interarts extravaganza exploring Compost Culture, War Ecologies, Contagion and Contamination, and Water/Flows. The festival reboots the environment and sustainability into a larger global conversation, embracing issues ranging from labor, war, health, disease, music, intellectual property, fine art, software, remix culture, economics, archives, AIDS, women’s rights, and human rights. The 2006 festival reimagines the environment beyond the land, sea, and air towards a larger vision of mediascapes, ethnoscapes, financescapes, ideoscapes, soundscapes, imagescapes, and screenscapes -- from one screen to many screens, from one idea to a multiplicity of crosswirings.
The festival program includes: 80 films, 18 digital works, 8 plasma screen works, 2 live performances, 1 installation, 22 guests, and 23 master classes and workshops
Festival Fellows will engage with Ithaca College faculty and students from across campus as well as with festival guests to explore linkages between sustainable development, different media platforms, globalization, race, ethnicity, gender, and music in order to stimulate new research and thinking in the areas of sustainability, interdisciplinary research, and international issues.
Selection to the festival fellows program is highly competitive; fellows are nominated by their graduate programs in consultation with departments at Ithaca College. Applications should be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from the faculty nominator. The deadline for submission of applications is Friday, February 24, 2006. Those graduate students who are selected to be Festival Fellows will have their travel, accommodations, festival pass, and food paid by the festival.
