Voices in the Dark, the annual student-written and directed project, is an opportunity to see the talents of Ithaca Theatre students with minimal faculty guidance. The play takes place in "anytime" Arkansas and revolves around two couples, each seemingly different, yet strangely the same. Voices is about making choices, and ultimately tells the odd tale of a unique and complex love story. “I’ve written a lot of one act plays in the past, they are all pretty light hearted with people finding an honest and joyous love. I wanted to take that idea and go a little further into the dramatics, and that’s where I started this project. I wanted to do something completely different.”

Director Ellen Cribbs also noted, “In the first rehearsal I noticed that the actors would be an amazing cast to work with, they already had a remarkable understanding of the characters. The cast really blossomed and got into the psychology of their roles, it’s very intimate -- only four people. It is really great to see how committed they are and how the process has developed into a compelling story.”

The cast includes B.F.A. acting majors Jon-Michael Miller ’09 and Christina Marie Smith ’07 as the young couple Jim and Nancy. B.F.A. acting majors Catherine Lena Stephani ’09 and Gary G. Howell '08 play the role of the thirty something couple, Barbra and Ted. The artistic design team includes stage manager Jessica Lamont ’07, assistant stage manager, Laurel Janeen Smith ’09, and lighting designer Sarah Watson ’08.
