A free evening of faculty chamber music will feature the music of Nikos Skalkottas on Thursday, February 23 at 8:15 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall. School of Music faculty pianist Charis Dimaras has spearheaded the event and will collaborate with colleagues oboist Paige Morgan, bassoonist Lee Goodhew Romm, and trumpeter Kim Dunnick.

A countryman of Dimaras, Nikos Skalkottas lived in Greece during the first half of the twentieth century, and was active as both a violinist and a composer. While he was still alive, his music remained relatively unknown. After his death, thanks to the efforts of a group of friends of the composer, Skalkottas' musical work became more known. He is recognized as one of the finest Greek composers of his time.
