Certified reflexologist Cat Berry will discuss this healing modality and how you can perform reflexology techniques on yourself. The discussion will take place Monday, March 13, from 5 to 6 p.m. in Friends 203. Sponsored by the Ithaca College Integrative Health Society. Contact Kate Saumweber at ksaumwe1@ithaca.edu.

The practice of reflexology may have a long history in cultures around the world. It seems in most ancient cultures, including Egypt, there is a tradition of working on the feet to help the body balance itself. Modern reflexology is based on the work of two American physicians, Dr. William Fitzgerald and Dr. Joe Shelby Riley, during the 1920s. Physiotherapist Eunice D. Ingham developed this knowledge into a usable therapy, called Foot Reflexology, and made it public in the late 1930s. Today research studies have been conducted around the world, including in the US, validating the effectiveness of reflexology for a wide variety of conditions. Chronic conditions seem to respond especially well to reflexology.

This is apalling! What's next phrenology or mesmerism.

Seriously, I hope some of our less credulous faculty
can show up to offer some skeptical balance.
