In February, Professor of Politics Asma Barlas attended
"Istanbul II: Empowering Women in Public Life in the
Middle East and North Africa," in Turkey.

The conference was organized by the Turkish Economic and Social
Studies Foundation and drew attendance from women's groups and
NGOs from across the entire MENA region.

Professor Barlas was also invited by the University of Oregon in
Eugene to give a university lecture on March 2nd, and a faculty/
graduate student seminar on March 3rd related to her work on the
Qur'an and Muslim women's rights.
