Designed for musicians and health care providers, the Healthy Musician: Injury Prevention and Intervention program of seminars and hands-on workshops will focus on health and musical performance.
A multidisciplinary faculty, under the direction of Nick Quarrier, clinical associate professor, physical therapy, will examine the physical and mental factors that affect both the musician and performance and will discuss the care and prevention of music-related injuries. The program is composed of two levels: Level I – June 16 to 18, and Level II – June 19 and 20.
Level I will offer sessions dealing with basic anatomy, postural analysis, stress and mental training, practice techniques, common injuries, Feldenkrais exercises and Brain Gym. Physical therapy examination, learning styles, Brain Gym, Feldenkrais exercises, and breathing techniques will be discussed and demonstrated in Level II.
All participants who successfully complete either or both levels will receive Ithaca College continuing education certificates. In addition, for an extra fee participants may enroll for graduate credit in physical therapy, occupational therapy, or music (one credit for each level).
