Reminder: Parking and Traffic Changes

Reminder of the parking and traffic changes as they relate to site preparation for the new Business School beginning on Monday, April 24. Please see below for details.

Site preparation in front of Job Hall for construction of the new School of Business building will begin later this month. As part of this work, the west portion of E-lot from the flag pole in front of Textor to Friends and Job Halls will be permanently taken off line. Also during construction, which is expected to continue through the summer of 2007, P-lot in front of Dillingham Center will be reserved exclusively for Admission visitors, service and construction vehicles. These changes will go into effect on Monday, April 24.

Our surveys indicate that the loss of these spaces can be accommodated in other existing parking lots as they are currently allocated between employees and students. However, to provide a margin of safety, the College has rented additional spaces in Y-lot located opposite the route 96B entrance to the College. The 214 spaces there are available to all employees, students and other authorized campus visitors, and are clearly marked for Ithaca College parking. Other changes associated with the construction effort are as follows:

The entrance leading to the Dillingham Center and Job parking lots from the main campus road will be closed for general use and restricted to construction vehicles.

Access to P-lot in front of Dillingham will be for admission visitors, service and construction vehicles only and will be via the entrance directly off the main circle which will become subject to two-way traffic. There will be no other outlet, so all vehicles entering that lot will have to turn around and exit on the circle. The diagonal striping in P-lot will be replaced with striping perpendicular to the curbs to better accommodate two-way traffic.

The handicapped parking spaces currently located in front of Job Hall will be relocated to the flagpole area. There will also be handicapped spaces in P-lot.

The two 15-minute flasher pick-up spaces currently in front of Dillingham Center will be relocated to F-lot. The service vehicle spaces currently located in front of Friends Hall will be relocated to E-lot in front of Muller Faculty Center.

The TCAT service stop will continue to be at the Textor Hall flagpole area.

The only access to E-lot in front of Muller Faculty Center will be via the entry road opposite the visitors’ parking lot. E-lot will terminate at the flagpole.

We regret the inconvenience these significant changes in parking will cause members of the College community. However, they are adjustments to which we must all get accustomed in order to facilitate the construction of this exciting new addition to our campus. Once again, these changes will be effective Monday, April 24. We suggest you allow more time to arrive at your campus destination during the first few days while new traffic and parking patterns get established. We will continue to monitor the situation on a regular basis to determine if any further adjustments might be necessary.

I feel like it might have been a lot smarter to wait 3 weeks to do this.. when all of the students are gone, Commencement is over, and faculty don't have to be here? It's not that long and it would have saved a lot of headaches.. Just a thought....
