Ithaca College

One of the most influential conservative commentators in the country will give a defense of the war on terror in a talk at Ithaca College. Rich Lowry, editor of "National Review," will speak on Tuesday, April 25, at 8:00 p.m. in Park Hall Auditorium. Titled "The Benign Superpower: In Defense of the President's Bush's War on Terror," his talk is free and open to the public.

While studying English and history at the University of Virginia, Lowry edited a conservative monthly magazine called the "Virginia Advocate." He graduated in 1990 and went on to work as a research assistant for commentator and columnist Charles Krauthammer and as a reporter for a local paper in Northern Virginia. In 1992 he joined "National Review," a magazine founded in 1955 by William F. Buckley that has played a decisive role in shaping the conservative movement in the United States. Lowry served as articles editor before moving to Washington in the summer of 1994 to cover Congress, and in 1997 he was named the magazine's editor.

Lowry is the author of the book "Legacy: Paying the Price for the Clinton Years," a scathing portrayal of the Clinton administration. He writes a twice-weekly syndicated column for King Features and is a political analyst for Fox News. He has also written for the "Washington Post," "New York Times," "Wall Street Journal," and "Reader's Digest."
