Head Start Program Opening at Longview for Child of IC Employee

An exciting opportunity has arisen that has made one slot in the Tompkins Community Action Early Childhood sponsored Head Start Program at Longview available to an Ithaca College employee for the 2006-07 school year.

As part of an agreement that Longview has developed with the Head Start Program, one slot each year is made available to a Longview employee. If no Longview employee requests the slot, the opening then becomes available to an Ithaca College employee. The Office of Human Resources, in conjunction with the Head Start Program at Longview, is pleased to announce an opportunity for an Ithaca College employee to benefit from this program.

The Head Start program is a free preschool, child care center for 3- to 5-year old children. There are generally income eligibility requirements for Head Start, but these do not apply to this opening. Children participate in a variety of activities to increase their language, social, physical, and cognitive abilities. The hours of the program are currently 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The program follows the public school calendar for the most part, but it does not begin the first week of school.

The HR department has devised a lottery approach for those interested in the space. Any fulltime employee who is interested in this preschool slot should contact Robin Davis, Assistant Director of Benefits, at 274-3245 by Thursday, May 11th at 5:00 p.m. A lottery drawing will then be held on Friday, May 12th.

Questions about the Head Start Program at Longview may be directed to Lita Remsen at 375-6324. Other questions should be directed to Robin Davis in the Office of Human Resources at 274-3245 or via email at rodavis@ithaca.edu .
