A new music download service, being launched by Napster founder Shawn Fanning, is coming to Ithaca College next week to sign up local bands and musicians.

SNOCAP is, as they describe it, "the first end-to-end provider of digital licensing and copyright management services for the digital music marketplace". Basically, it's a music download service similar to iTunes or Rhapsody, founded by Shawn Fanning (founder of Napster), only on a different model. With SNOCAP the artists have control over format, pricing, rights, etc. They've already made deals with the four largest record labels and will have the largest music library on the net (1.5 million tunes). You can find out more at snocap.com.

SNOCAP wants to work with Ithaca College to create its "model" for how it will work with campuses around the country. They are going to fly in a rep from San Francisco next week to meet with local and IC related bands to get them signed up and in the system. So any band or artist that has music they're ready to make available to the public should come and meet with the rep. SNOCAP would normally charge a small fee to the artist to get into the system, but they're waiving this fee for anyone who shows up next week. This is a great opportunity for local artist to get attention for their music. It's a chance to market your music where you:

-Set your own prices

-Control your own rights

-Receive the highest return available

-Receive digital distribution and promotion in the US and Canada

-WITH NO RISK!

The SNOCAP representative will be in Friends 110, Wednesday, May 3 at 1 p.m..

Bands should send a representative (not the whole band) and the rep should bring with them:

-Driver's license or State ID AND SSN
-CD(s)
-Credit card or e-check info (through which the artist will get paid when their music is downloaded. There is no cost for the artist.)

Please let me know in advance if you’re coming so I can be sure we have enough space for everyone. Email me at ttorello@ithaca.edu.

Don’t miss out on this unique chance to promote your music to the world!
