I am pleased to share very important news as a follow-up to our meetings this past weekend with the board of trustees.
MASTER PLAN
Gateway Building—The board of trustees approved the selection of HOLT Architects for the new Gateway Building, which will house enrollment services, human resources, and other administrative offices. It will be located on the north side of Dillingham, west of the new School of Business, and construction will commence in the spring of 2007.
A&E Center—Critical lead gifts of $10 million for the Athletics & Events Center, announced on Friday, ensure our ability to move forward with this important project. The gifts come from two philanthropic foundations, Atlantic Philanthropies and the French American Charitable Trust, at the direction of Ithaca College trustee Caroleen Feeney ’86. With the help of our internal stakeholder team, architects at Moody Nolan are hard at work determining the building’s program and refining the design. We will be inviting the campus community to learn more about the project in the coming weeks.
School of Business—Fifty guests, including trustees, donors, IC faculty and staff, and community leaders, joined us for a wonderful groundbreaking ceremony on Friday evening that marked the formal beginning of construction on the new building for the School of Business. You will recall that in 2004, Mrs. Dorothy Park made a $7 million lead gift for the campaign to build a dedicated facility for the business school. Mrs. Park’s interest in this project has grown as it has moved into the construction stage. On Friday, trustee Adelaide Gomer announced her mother’s intention to commit another $3 million to help ensure that it will be fully funded. This is an act of tremendous generosity, and with Mrs. Park’s additional commitment, we have raised $13.5 million toward a new goal of $17 million.
