As a Student who has found out on more than one occasion of a friend's death through "Intercom Alert" could we please either keep the "alerts" to serious alerts only or have a differnt system for not so serious location changes? My heart drops everytime I see one of these until I read the subject line which states "Campus Post Office out of Stamps" or "Ice Cream Social - Location Change." It would be much appreciated.

This was a very wise suggestion by the student that has commented on
the use of the term "alert". The word "Alert" in the context of the times and its appendage to the nightmare of "terrorism" may ellicit at least an initial emotional response not meant by the message sender. Perhaps a softer term such as "Special Notice", or "Please Read" would be more appropriate for non-emergency messages. |
