Dear members of the Ithaca College community:

I was deeply troubled to learn that acts of bias have recently been carried out on this campus. Cowardly and insensitive acts such as these have no place here at Ithaca College.

As I noted in my address to the Ithaca College community on the topic of diversity and community on March 15, 2005, “such intolerant and intolerable behavior of bias and hate does not reflect who we are as a community, nor who we aspire to be.” (The full text of my remarks can be found at https://www.ithaca.edu/president/diversity.php)

While I am confident that we are making good progress with our institutional plan and most specifically our priority on diversity, our work is clearly never done. We must be committed toward appreciating and respecting the differences of all members of the Ithaca College community.

I encourage anyone with information that would be helpful in determining those responsible for acts of bias to please contact the Office of Public Safety at 274-3333.

Sincerely,
Peggy R. Williams, President

Not to sound like an idiot, but what is this message in response to? The graffiti in Emerson Hall?

No. You don't sound like an idiot. I have no idea what the hell she's talking
about.

Maybe you ought to keep us informed, Ithaca.

Just a thought.

yeah this doesn't make any sense at all...and it's that way because none of us have any idea of what 'the bias; is!...

Best way to solve this and get feedback is to tell us the issue!

"We are angry at this thing! It is a bad thing! It is important that all of us join together to strongly denounce the thing!"
"And what is the thing?"
"...a bad thing!!!"

Read the newspaper, people. Maybe then you won't have to complain about how you don't know what is going on on campus.

Whether you read the newspaper or not, the only way to connect this "important message" with an event is to assume. If it is that important, don't leave us guessing.
