Tompkins Renewable Energy Education Alliance presents a panel discussion.

  • Wednesday, October 25
  • 5-7pm
  • Textor 102
  • Ithaca College

The Tompkins Renewable Energy Education Alliance (TREEA) will host a panel discussion on an idea for a community-owned wind farm to be constructed on Connecticut Hill. Developer John Rancich, of Ithaca, NY, will be a panelist in a discussion that will be open to all interested community members. Other panelists include Dr. John Confer, (Avian Biologist at Ithaca College), Dr. Jason Hamilton, (Global Change Scientist at Ithaca College), Mr. Steve Nicholson (Tompkins County Environmental Management Council) Mr. W.S.(Lanny) Joyce, P.E. (Energy Manager at Cornell University), Ms. Annie Koreman (Sierra Club Conservation Chair), and others with expertise on wind power.

Many environmental groups are in favor of wind development when siting is carefully addressed. Nevertheless, wind development in the US is often hampered by inadequate communication between developers and community members to address common fears and concerns.

This discussion is open to the public, and panelists will address issues such as (a) land property values near wind farms, (b) visual impacts, (c) bird and noise impacts, (d) community-ownership, compensation, investment scenarios, and other concerns or questions posed by the audience.
