Susan Allen-Gil was an invited speaker at the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Strategies to Enhance National Security in Transition Countries in Sibiu, Romania during September.

She delivered a paper on her work on the Arctic, entitled "Lessons from the North: Balancing Economic Development, Cultural Heritage and Environmental Protection".
