PUBLIC SAFETY ALERT

Contributed by David Maley on 11/06/06

On Sunday, October 29, a non-student reported to the Ithaca Police Department that she had been the victim of a sexual assault by an unknown male at an unknown off-campus location in the vicinity of Ithaca College.

According to the victim, at about 2:33 a.m. on Sunday she left a party on Hillview Place and was walking back to campus where she was staying with a friend. A short distance from the party she met a male subject who offered to walk with her back to campus. At a point prior to arriving at the campus the victim and the male entered an unknown residence, where the victim says the sexual assault later occurred. The incident was reported at about 9:25 a.m. that same morning.

The perpetrator is described by the victim as follows:

White male, 21 to 22 years old, approximately 6’ tall, with a medium build and dark wavy hair.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Ithaca Police Department at 272-9973 or the Ithaca College Office of Public Safety at 274-3333.

Students are reminded to always walk in groups, utilize escorts on campus and report any suspicious people and/or activity.

I encourage everyone, especially females, to not walk alone when you go out at night. Be aware of your surroundings and do not go with people you don't know. Anything can happen to any of us- we never know. Anyone can be a victim of rape, even at Ithaca.

Considering the population of this campus that is an extremely vague description and constitutes approximately 85% of all guys on IC campus. I understand and im sorry this happened to her but did she get a name or any kind of information while they were walking? Unless the guys name is mike which doesnt help much either.
